Roberts Ready to Shine

NASR/SSA Media Release

Having emerged in recent years as one of the new breed of talented drivers in the Super Sedan division, Victoria 's Lucas Roberts has now established himself as a bona fide star in the category with a record of success that is the envy of many vastly more experience competitors.  At 35 years of age, Roberts is a veritable youngster in comparison to those drivers who have dominated the category for so long and, in many cases, continue to do so.  Series organisers are therefore very pleased to announce that Lucas Roberts is the sixth competitor to be confirmed as a contracted driver with the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series.

Roberts spent just two years in the Street Stock ranks before moving into Super Sedans and has now completed nine seasons of V8 competition.  It was the 2003/2004 season that saw Roberts rise to prominence when he upstaged some higher profile competitors to win the 2003/2004 Victorian Super Sedan Championship at Nyora Speedway.  Determined to prove his success wasn't a fluke, Roberts journeyed to Mildura's Timmis Speedway the next season and successfully defended his crown, silencing any detractors along the way.  Last season, Roberts created history when he became only the second driver to win three consecutive Victorian Championships, triumphing on the Heartland Raceway circuit owned and built by his father.

Beyond his home state successes, Roberts has journeyed far and wide in search of opportunities to race the best in the business.  During the 2003/2004 East Coast Grand National at Lismore Speedway in northern New South Wales, Roberts took out the Preliminary feature race, only to make a spectacular exit from the ECGN 50-lap main event the following night when his Ultra Steel Pontiac somersaulted through turn three.  Despite an inglorious ending, Roberts confirmed his status among the category's elite and has since been a regular fixture and a genuine contender in all major events around the country. Last season saw the culmination of these efforts when he took out the South Australian Championship and also scored a superb third-place finish in the 2005/2006 Australian Super Sedan Championship at Toowoomba's Charlton Raceway.

From the outset, Roberts has been an enthusiastic supporter of the National Super Sedan Series concept and took part in the inaugural series last season.  Despite being plagued by misfortune throughout the series, Roberts still accumulated some impressive results including several heat wins and two top-five finishes in series feature races, topped by a third-place result during round three at Rockhampton Speedway just one week after his national title success. Ultimately, Roberts finished seventh overall in the series and with a brand new car at his disposal for his 2006/2007 campaign, he will be determined to avoid the mishaps that befell him last season and stamp his authority on the series.

Speedway Sedans Australia (ASCF) and the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) are very pleased to confirm Lucas Roberts as a contracted driver in the 2006/2007 National Super Sedan Series.  Other drivers already confirmed for the series are Wayne Randall, John Leslight, Brad Smith, Michael Gee and Dave Gartner.
